Linksys PAP2

Linksys PAP2
The most common way to get VoIP was to buy a special VoIP phone. The problem with this kind of setup was you have to get rid of that fancy office phone on your desk that you paid a few hundred bucks for. For people who want VoIP but wish to keep their landline phone, Linksys has has came up with a cool new VoIP device call the Linksys Phone Adapter (PAP2).
The New Linksys Phone Adapter, combined with a subscription to a specific VoIP service plan, turns your existing Internet connection into a high-quality phone line for placing and receiving phone calls. The phone adapter comes equipped with two standard phone ports (RJ-11) and one Ethernet port (RJ-45). Users connect their existing cordless or stationary phones or a fax machine to the phone adapter; connect the phone adapter to a router or gateway via the Ethernet port. Each phone jack operates independently, with separate phone service and phone numbers. It's just like having two phone lines.
The new Linksys VoIP hardware solutions were developed with its parent company, Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in IP Telephony. After signing up for a Voice over IP service through a specific service provider, both families and small offices can use the Internet to make phone calls, getting substantial savings on local, long distance, and International calling while also enjoying additional features at no cost such as call waiting, voicemail, caller ID, call blocking, repeat dialing and more. The Linksys Phone Adapter enables use of our high-quality, feature-rich telephone service through your cable or DSL Internet connection. Just plug it into your home Router or Gateway and use the two standard telephone jacks to connect your existing phones or fax machines. Each phone jack operates independently, with separate phone service and phone numbers -- like having two phone lines.
Easy-to-install and simple-to-use, the PAP2T-NA connects standard telephones and fax machines to IP-based data networks. IP telephony service providers and enterprises can offer users traditional and enhanced communication services via the customer's broadband connection to the Internet or Local Area Network (LAN).

The PAP2T features two POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) ports for connection to existing analog phones, fax machines, PBX and key system communication platforms. The PAP2T includes an Ethernet interface for connection to a home or office LAN. With the PAP2T, each phone port can be independently provisioned via software controlled by the service provider or the end user.

With the PAP2T, individuals and companies are able to protect and extend their past investments in telephones, conference speakerphones and fax machines as well as control their migration to IP with an extremely affordable, incremental investment.

Installed by the end user and remotely provisioned, configured and maintained by the service provider, each SPA converts voice traffic into data packets for transmission over an IP network. The PAP2T can be used in consumer and business IP telephony service offerings including full-featured IP Centrex. The PAP2T delivers clear sounding voice and reliable fax calling through its implementation of internationally recognized standards for voice and data networking.

The PAP2T-NA is the latest offering from Linksys / Sipura, and replaces the SPA-2002 for all end-user applications. This unit features the attractive new Linksys design.
